Nameplate Capacity

If you are buying an EV charger then you might have seen the term “nameplate capacity” mentioned in the relevant specifications.

Nameplate capacity refers to the theoretical power output associated with the unit. This is normally done in amps, describing the total output current available from the charger to the electric vehicle.

Nameplate capacity is also used with other power output ratings, such as actual power plants and even oil refinineries, whose capacity will be rated in megawatts or oil barrels in the case of a refinery.
